With winter weather expected this weekend, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to stay home and off the roadways if possible. Additional deputies will be on duty to respond to emergencies, though response times may be slower than normal due to conditions.

If You Must Travel:

• Allow extra time and drive at reduced speeds

• Increase following distance for longer stopping times

• Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready (tires, lights, wipers, washer fluid)

• Carry an emergency kit (blankets, flashlight, phone charger, water, snacks)

• Do not drive past cones, barrels, or police tape—closed roads are impassable

If You’re Involved in a Crash During Winter Weather:

• If there are injuries, call 911 immediately

• If no injuries and the vehicle is off the roadway, contact Cheatham County Dispatch at

615-792-2098

• Be prepared to leave your vehicle if instructed and arrange removal as soon as weather

allows

• If exiting your vehicle, stay well off the roadway and away from traffic

Roadway Concerns:

Most Cheatham County roads are backroads with hills and curves that become hazardous in

snow and ice. While TDOT clears major highways, backroads may take days to improve or

may not be cleared at all. Know your routes, avoid problem areas, and plan alternate routes.

Common Problem Areas Include:

• Hwy 49E (Bearwallow Rd to Sweethome Rd)

• Hwy 49W (Harpeth River Bridge to Cumberland River Bridge)

• River Rd “Dump Hill” at Hwy 49W

• Hwy 12N (Boarders Hotel to Old Hwy 12N)

• Sams Creek Rd & Hwy 70

• Hwy 41-A (Red Binkley Rd to Jackson Felts Rd)
