After going undefeated in regular season district play, the Sycamore War Eagles soccer team closed out their regular season with a record of 9-4-4.
"We have had a very good season so far," says Head Coach Taylor McCullough. "We are proud of how this team has grown and come together. We have a lot of seniors but also a good mix of freshmen and sophomores that play key roles in our team."
Advancing to the districts, Sycamore boasted two shut-out wins over Creek Wood (3-0) and Fairview (1-0) in the semifinals and final games respectively.
Regional play for the War Eagles began on Tuesday, May 16, bringing Giles County to Pleasant View. Two goals by senior forward Davin Gleaves (assists by freshman midfielder Dylan Atnip) solidified a War Eagle win over the Bobcats, 2-1.
The win will allow Sycamore to advance further into the regional tournament. Tomorrow, May 18, the War Eagles will travel to Murfreesboro Central Magnet to face the Tigers (4-1-2 district record). They will also play Saturday, May 20, with the team to be announced on Thursday..
"We played a great game yesterday," McCullough says. "I am so proud of the boys for keeping their composure after going down a goal early on. I love their resiliency this season- especially lately. I am also very proud of the leadership of this senior group led by Samuel Pentecost, Davin Gleaves, and Nathaniel Biggs."
