Last month, in Cleveland, Tennessee, local boxer Gavin Collins won the Tennessee Silver Gloves 15/16 - 106-lb category to advance to the upcoming Region 6 tournament.
Collins, a rising sophomore at Sycamore High School, began boxing approximately two years ago under the tutelage of Cheatham County's Darryl Tomlin before his main focus went to his son, Ty Tomlin's, professional endeavors. Collins now trains under Kris Clements of Deadshot Boxing based in Clarksville.
Collins' budding amateur career is taking steadily solid root, as he has already fought in four different states leading up to the recent Silver Gloves tournament.
According to USA Boxing, Collins has amassed an amateur record of five wins and one loss since his first fight in March of 2021; his only recorded loss being his second-ever fight against Thor Hill (American Pride Boxing, Clarksville), whom he later defeated on June 19 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, and again late last month to secure his trip to Silver Gloves Regionals.
Looking toward the future, Collins is currently training for the Silver Gloves Region 6 tournament, which will be July 29-30-31 in Searcy, Arkansas. While there, he will compete against fighters from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
Following that, he hopes to compete in an event on August 21 in Clarksville.
