Sycamore, Cheatham Wrestling: Week in Review

Last week was a big one for wrestling in Cheatham County.


On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Fairview High School hosted the D1 District 14 Duals. Sycamore High School defeated Montgomery Central, 45-36, in the first round and then forfeited to Fairview. Fairview finished as the District 14 Champions, and Sycamore as the runner-up. Both teams qualified to compete in the D1 Region 7 Duals hosted by Sycamore High on January 26.


In the first round, Sycamore defeated the District 13 Champion, East Nashville Magnet High School, by a score of 48-30. Fairview, the District 14 Champion, defeated Hillwood High, the District 13 runner-up. In the second round, Sycamore forfeited to Fairview, leaving Fairview the Region 7 Champions and Sycamore as the runner-up. Both Fairview and Sycamore advanced to the D1 Sectionals Regions 7 & 8 Duals on January 28. Fairview hosted Region 8 runner-up, Millington Central High School, who forfeited, sending Fairview to compete in the TSSAA State Duals Championship. Sycamore then traveled to Munford High School, the Region 8 Champion. Sycamore defeated Munford by a score of 41-35 to advance to the TSSAA State Duals Championship set for February 4.

On January 26, Cheatham County Central High School travelled to Hillsboro High School and competed in a tri-match with Columbia Central and Hillsboro. Cheatham defeated Columbia Central by a score of 26-24, and defeated Hillsboro by a score of 42-30.


On January 28, Cheatham County Central High School had six wrestlers go to Siegel High School to compete in the JV State Individual Wrestling tournament: Wyatt Porter (113 lbs) did not place; Caden Ospina (138 lbs) placed 3rd; Jose Orrego (195 lbs) did not place; Roger Gonzalez (220 lbs) placed 2nd; Emma Reeves (Girls 107 lbs) did not place; Keynia Williams (185 lbs) placed 2nd. Cheatham County competes on February 2 in dual with East Nashville Magnet High School.
