-Cheatham County Sheriff's Office

"On March 8, 2022, at approximately 10:45 The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers began to receive reports concerning a threat of a school shooting at Cheatham County Central High School. They immediately contacted school faculty and the main office of the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and command staff responded to all schools until we were able to better isolate the threat at which point we began to scale this incident back.

This is still an ongoing investigation however we are confident in saying that we have identified a suspect and that there is currently no valid threat to any of the schools in the Cheatham County School District being reported.

As stated before, this is still an ongoing investigation but upon completion the report will be shared with the District Attorney’s Office and if appropriate, charges will be filed in the proper jurisdiction and venue for the suspect involved.

The safety and protection of the children of Cheatham County School System is a priority of the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office and we will do everything in our power and capabilities to fully investigate and prosecute any and all threats received.

We want to thank the public for all their understanding and assistance in this incident and again to reassure them that at this time there are no valid threats to any of the schools in Cheatham County School System."

-Cheatham County School District

As always, the safety of our students and staff is one of our top priorities.

Earlier today, Cheatham County Central High School was placed on a lockdown due to the report of a potential threat on the school campus. Out of an abundance of caution, Cheatham Middle School was placed on a lockout.

Late this afternoon, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office determined that the potential threat was not credible, and a suspect has been identified. Legal charges will be pursued.

As law enforcement investigated the potential threat at CCCHS today, students remained in their classrooms. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office ammunition dog was brought in, and students were searched.

Families, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

We understand that you want information while the investigation is taking place. Once the Sheriff’s Office takes over the investigation, providing additional information could jeopardize the situation.

CCCHS will be open on its regular schedule on Wednesday, March 9.

If students, parents or community members know of an unsafe situation in one of our schools, they can pass on that information to school officials by sending an e-mail to our tip line. Our school safety email address is tip@ccstn.org.

We thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
