On Saturday, January 29, 2022, Cheatham County Central High School had twelve wrestlers compete in the 2022 JV State Wrestling Tournament held at Wilson Central High School: Christian Honeycutt (120lbs), Seth Biggs (120lbs), Chris Hollars (126lbs), J.J. Thomason (132lbs), Caden Ospina (138lbs), Kakoa Guerrero (145lbs), Clinton Canada (145lbs), Cameron Canada (152lbs), Logan Kane (160lbs), Ethan Steele (160lbs), Cooper Cantrell (160lbs) and Gage Forsythe (170lbs).
The JV State Tournament is for junior varsity wrestlers with less than 50-percent winning record during the season.
Three wrestlers made to the Consolation Semi-final round (one round from placing in the top four of tournament) before exiting the tournament: Kakoa Guerrero, Cameron Canada, and Ethan Steele.
Three wrestlers were able to place for the Cheatham County Central Cubs: Caden Ospina - 4th place, Cooper Cantrell - 1st place, and Gage Forsythe - 2nd place.
All wrestlers competing for the Cheatham County Central Cubs were either freshman or sophomores. "This talented group wrestlers are the future of Cheatham County Central High School Wrestling," coaches say.
Senior Night
On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, the Cheatham County Central High School wrestling team hosted a tri-meet with Friendship Christian and West Creek High School. This was also "senior night" for Cheatham County Central High School. In the first match, Cheatham County Central won over Friendship Christian by a score of 42-21. In the second match, West Creek defeated Friendship Christian by a score of 48-22. For the third match, Cheatham County Central defeated West Creek by a score of 39-36.
Seniors for Cheatham County Central High are Spencer Hendrix (152lbs), Ian Reed (182lbs), and Trinity Smith (114lbs).
"Despite the future talent, these senior wrestlers contributions to the team will be missed," coaches say.
