Veterans, their families, local officials, and members of the community gathered at the site of the Pleasant View Veterans Memorial at Pleasant View Community Park to honor veterans on November 9, 2023.
The annual event, put on by Pleasant View Elementary School, brought in hundreds of attendees who quietly watched the invocation by Pastor Steve Lefebvre, Color Guard and the pledge led by Boy Scout Troop 76, and musical performances by Pleasant View Elementary, East Cheatham Elementary, Sycamore Middle, Sycamore High, and Pleasant View Christian School.
This year's guest of honor, introduced by George Leasure of the North Cheatham Civitan Club, was Sargent Don Nicholson who was MP (military police) for the Unites States Army. Nicholson was trained in Fort Gordon, Georgia, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and served during the Korean Conflict. He went on to be a founding member of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department and served as a deputy for the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office.
Paver dedications were held for Sgt. Keith Fisher of the Unites States Marie Corps and James A. Binkley, a United States Marie from 1959-1963.
