Obituary: Robie Marie Kelley



Robie Marie Kelley was born on June 3, 1923, in Charlotte, TN to the late Otis Jackson and Sadie Collier Jackson Bell.


She was preceded in death by sister, Nannie Ruth Majors and Carrie Lois Majors; brothers, Thomas Jackson, William Zebbie Bell, and Alfred Cecil Bell, Sr. She is survived by her sister, Mary Helen Majors, devoted nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. Marie moved from Tennessee at a young age and graduated high school in Kokomo, Indiana.


She lived in various cities/states, including Kokomo and Peru, Indiana, and Delaware. She had varied interests and performed as a trapeze artist with her former husband as a part of their circus act.


Marie returned to Tennessee in 1968 following the tragic death of her brother William Zebbie Bell and his wife, Pat. She remained in Tennessee to help her sister in caring for her brother’s minor children.


Marie was employed as a seamstress at Acme Boot Co. from which she retired. She had many friends in the community, none more devoted than her best friend Ms. Ruby Johns. Marie lived her life to the fullest and had a positive prospective stating, “I did everything I wanted to do and some of it twice.”


Funeral service for Marie will be Friday, July 2, 2021, at 2pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Reverend Frankie Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion AME Cemetery in Charlotte, Tennessee.
