Obituary: James Robert “Jimmy” Murphey, 80


James Robert “Jimmy” Murphey, age 80, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, March 20, 2021.


Jimmy was born on October 30, 1940, in Robertson County, Tennessee, to the late Dewall P. Sr. and Mary Morgan Murphey. A 1958 graduate of Coopertown High School, he worked as a supervisor for Unarco Industries, a freight salesman for several trucking companies, and a farmer. Mr. Murphey was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and Masonic fraternal organization. Jimmy had many hobbies, including coaching and umpiring baseball, tractor pulling, and reading about history. He was an avid animal lover who loved to rabbit hunt in his youth and feed animals in his later years. A lover of antique tractor pulling and Allis Chalmers, he was a founder of the Robertson County Antique Tractor Puller Association. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, P.J. Murphey; son-in-law, Joe Shelton, Jr.; brother, Junior Murphey; and sisters, Dimple Price and Anne Head.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye B. Murphey; sons, Phillip (Lori) Murphey, Preston Murphey; daughters, Kathy Perry, Kaye Murphey, and Kim Shelton; grandchildren, Josh (Kristin) Pulley, Brooke Pulley, Brandi Mackey, Brittani Mackey, Amanda Myatt, Cameron Myatt, Zachary (Christina) Shelton, Morgan Shelton, Jacob Shelton, Nikki (Will) Darnall; and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
