Obituary: Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Lockert, 87

Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Lockert, 87, passed away on April 5, 2021. She was born on May 30, 1933 in Nashville, Tennessee to Richard Dotson Perry and Eunice Elizabeth Travis Perry.

She was married to and cared for William Floyd (Billy) Brown, had 3 children while in her teens, and was widowed at the age of 21 after his battle with cancer. Dot later met and married W.B. Lockert, Jr. Together their family grew to a total of six children, in Ashland city. She continued to care for W.B until his passing in 2007 from Parkinson’s disease. She continued caring for others even after her own health had declined by reaching out to those who were in pain or just sad and lonely at Vantage Pointe memory care unit.

Among the many other attributes she possessed, Mama “Dot” Lockert loved her Lord with all her being, delighted in her family, and instilled in her grandchildren what true love looks like by serving her Lord, family, and friends with an absolute unconditional love. Her oldest granddaughter considered her a "first mother" and a guiding light in her life. Mama Dot showed that bear hugs, giant jam cakes, and enormous doses of love are the right way to be in this world. Two granddaughters honored her each naming a great-grandchild after her and all 3 of her daughters gave “Elizabeth” to their daughters.

Among many other memories recalled of her, one favorite was Dot’s singing songs while lying in her big bed surrounded by her numerous grandchildren. Others recalled that apples tasted best from Dot’s tree at her old house where Dot welcomed and treated everyone like family with her overwhelming hospitality.

Dorothy “Dot” Lockert has left an indelible mark on her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. May she continue doing what she loved: singing, laughing, dancing, and praising God with uplifted arms.

Dot is preceded in death by her husbands, William Floyd (Billy) Brown and William Bradley Lockert, Jr.; parents; son, William Richard “Ric” Brown; and brother, Thomas Jackson Perry. She is survived by children, William Bradley “Jake” Lockert, III (Theresa), Julie Renee Hibbs (Ray), Victor Perry Lockert (Carol), Janet Lockert Murray, and Patrice Tracey (Joe); 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 8,2021 from 3pm to 7pm and Friday, April 9th from 11am to 1pm. A private burial for family will follow.
