Parents seeking medical care for their children have a new option in Pleasant View: Kids First Pediatrics. The full-service clinic opened in November on Highway 41-A and offers traditional pediatric services including sick and well visits, according to Dr. Jenny Seawell-Wynn, owner of Kids First Pediatrics.
“We also focus on the child’s mental health as well. I’ve participated in additional training for mental health and am one of the faculty of the REACH Institute, which trains general pediatric practitioners in evidence-based mental health care in a primary pediatric setting. We have a licensed clinical social worker coming early 2022 for therapy services on site which will be a great resource for the community,” particularly as doctors have seen an increase overall in mental health issues for young people, Seawell-Wynn said.
“Parents should keep their eyes open for any changes in behavior and temperament,” she said. “Children don’t always look sad, and sometimes they present with outbursts or constant physical complaints.”
While Seawell-Wynn has been practicing for 17 years, first in Clarksville, Tenn., and now in Pleasant View, she is also a parent which helps give her insight into caring for young ones.
“Parenting is definitely an adventure and although you definitely do NOT need to be a parent to be a great pediatrician, the struggles of parenting can definitely open your eyes and give you a lot of empathy towards other parents. I started a blog several years ago called The Pediatric Ninja. Its goal is to give parents usable information but in a relatable way. I’m looking forward to writing more soon,” she said.
The Louisiana native said she was drawn to the community after driving through Pleasant View many times taking one of her children to music lessons in Nashville.
“We’d stop for ice cream or detour through when the interstate traffic was bad. It’s a fantastic area because of its proximity to so many areas…Nashville, Clarksville, Springfield, Adams, Ashland City. I wanted a pediatric office that had a very small family feel, and Pleasant View reminded me of growing up in a small town in Louisiana (where I’m from), so it felt like a natural fit,” Seawell-Wynn said.
Kids First has been busy with new patients since it opened, and accepts most health insurance.
The clinic is located at 6312 Highway 41-A, Suite 102, and the phone is 615-819-5431. Their website is www.kidsfirstpeds.com and you can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram @kidsfirstpedsTN.
