Middle School Wrestlers Compete in MCAC

On Saturday, December 17, 2022, the MCAC (Mid-Cumberland Area Conference) Wrestling Individual Championship Tournament was held at Fairview High School with 12 Middle School Wrestling Teams competing: Burns, Charlotte, Cheatham, Dickson, East Robertson, Fairview, Harpeth, Greenbrier, Richview, Rossview, Springfield, and Sycamore. Teams were allowed two wrestlers for each of the 15 weight classes: one scoring and one non-scoring. The teams earning the most individual points won the team portion of the tournament, and the top four wrestlers in each weight class were awarded medals for their achievements on the day.

Cheatham had 11 wrestlers competing. Briison Bush (76lbs), Oakley Davis (83lbs), Peirce Mimms (113lbs), and Braeden Capps (141 lbs) made it to the "blood round" (one win away from placing) in their respective weights, Cody Canada took 2nd place at 91 lbs, and Tyler Steele earned the title of MCAC HWT Champion defeating Springfield's HWT wrestler in the finals match. Cheatham finished in 11th place as a team with 71 points.

Sycamore had 12 wrestlers compete. Daniel Roach made it to the blood round at 165lbs, Levi Fielder earned 4th place at 106 lbs, Dagan Cardenas earned 4th place at 113 lbs, Colton Long took 2nd place at 151 lbs, and Tyler Knight earned the title of MCAC 76lbs Champion by defeating Greenbrier in the finals match. Sycamore finished in 9th place as a team with 75.5 points.


Springfield Middle School was the overall Team Winner with 206.5 points. Sycamore's Head Coach, Ty Knight, was selected Coach of the Year, and Sycamore's Tyler Knight earned Most Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights (76-119lbs) division.
