Local Wrestlers Qualify for State Championship


The boys' wrestling teams from Sycamore and Cheatham County Central High Schools competed in the Region 4A-AA wrestling Tournament on February 13, 2021, at Fairview High School.


To qualify for the state championship, wrestlers had to finish in the top four for their respective weight class. Only 56 out of the 110 wrestlers competing in the Regional Tournament qualified to advance to compete in the TSSAA State Wrestling Championships, set to be held in Chattanooga February 18-20. *Postponed until Feb. 24-26 due to weather

Cheatham County Central High School qualifiers (Angie Camper)


For Cheatham County Central High School, there were six state qualifiers: Owen Carney, 126 pounds, 4th place; Aiden Alvarez, 132 pounds, 4th place; Spencer Hendrix, 145 pounds, 4th place; Daniel White, 152 pounds, 1st place; Landon Morris, 195 pounds, 2nd place; Rolen Prater, 285 pounds, 4th place. All of these wrestlers are first-time qualifiers.

Sycamore High School qualifiers (Angie Camper)

For Sycamore High School, there were eight qualifiers: Trey Moreland, 106 pounds, 3rd place; Dylan Davenport, 126 pounds, 1st place; Logan Heckert, 132 pounds, 1st place, Luke London 138 pounds, 1st place; Mark Helser, 145 pounds, 2nd place; Evan Dickson, 220 pounds, 2nd place; Ariel Rojas-Avila 285 pounds, 2nd place. The Sycamore team also placed second for most team points at the regional tournament. Moreland, Davenport, and Dickson are first-time qualifiers.


Harpeth High School also had six wrestlers qualify for the state championship.

On January 30, Amanda Thomason of Cheatham County Central High School qualified for the girls' division of the state championship. She is also a first-time qualifier, and the only female wrestler to qualify from the Cheatham County.
