Local Wrestlers Advance to Sectionals

On Saturday, February 11, 2023, Sycamore High School hosted the Class A Region 7 Boys Wrestling Tournament- the first challenge to qualify for the Individual State Championship by finishing in the top five of the respective weight classes.


The next challenge is the Section 4 Class A Boys Wrestling Tournament which will be held at Millington High School on Saturday, February 18. From there, only the top four from each weight class will qualify to compete at state.


Sectional qualifiers from the Region 7 Tournament for Sycamore are: Ray Felts (113 lbs 4th), Trey Moreland (126 lbs 1st), Gavin Smith (132 lbs 4th), Dylan Davenport (138 lbs 1st), Luke London (145 lbs 1st), James Vaughn (152 lbs 2nd), Seth Johnson (170 lbs 5th), Logan Heckert (182 lbs 1st), Nathan Heathman (195 lbs 2nd), Jordan Sober (220 lbs 5th), and Evan Dixon (285 lbs 1st).

Section 4 Class A qualifiers from Cheatham County Central High School are: Derek Walton (106 lbs 2nd), Wyatt Porter (113 lbs 5th), Sumner Boyd (120 lbs 3rd), Adan Alvarez (132 lbs 3rd), Caden Ospina (138 lbs 5th), Owen Carney (145 lbs 6th), Daylan Wilcher (160 lbs 5th), Daniel White (170 lbs 1st), Ethan Steele (182 lbs 5th), and Jose Orrego (195 lbs 5th).


Sycamore wrestler Logan Heckert was awarded the Region Wrestler of the Year title for the upper-weight classes, and Steve Hamblin was named the Coach of the Year.


Lady War Eagles and Lady Cubs wrestlers will compete in the Girls Region 3 Individual Tournament on Friday, February 17, at Bartlett High School with the top four from each weight class qualifying for state.
