A former Sycamore High athlete who overcame a devastating injury during a wrestling championship his senior year is preparing for another big night under the lights. This time, however, Brandon Lee will be walking the red carpet and then performing for country music fans at the one of the largest independent music awards shows, The Josie Awards or JMA’s, on Sept. 17 - 18, which will be recorded and televised from the Country Tonite Theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Brandon Lee was chosen out of nearly 1,000 contestants to perform, and he is nominated for five awards, including Song of the Year for his single “Thank God for Angels,” Video of the Year for his single “Hurricane,” EP of the Year for “Angels Like You,” Rising Star of the Year, and Vocalist of the Year in the Southern Rock category.
His EP was produced by Kent Wells, Grammy-nominated music producer who has worked with Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, and the Oak Ridge Boys. Wells will accompany Brandon Lee on stage and will play guitar.
The young star’s mother and manager, Lee Ellen Waugh, said she and her family are excited and grateful for her son’s growth in his singing career over these past two years.
“It’s just an amazing journey,” Waugh said.
Brandon Lee said he is thankful for his faith guiding him.
“Thank the Lord above for opening all these doors. If I can make one person smile a day, I am thankful. I would also like to thank the Josies for this huge step in my musical career and to be part of this great event,” he said. Tickets are still available for the Josie Awards on their website, https://www.josiemusicawards.com.
