The Sycamore Lady War Eagles soccer team has continued their tremendously successful season by taking first place in the District 12-AA district championship game on October 13, 2022.
With a home-field advantage, the Lady War Eagles took down the Fairview Yellowjackets, 3-0, allowing them to keep their "district champion" title for the second year in a row.
Junior Addie Bega started the game off strong with the Lady War Eagles' first goal, setting the tone for the rest of the game. "Because of that goal, our team became energized and we realized we could win that game," says Head Coach Mat Simon.
The second goal came from junior Anna Canterbury who "refused to give up and continued pressing the ball which lead to another goal," says Simon. The third and final goal was by senior captain Cassie Groves. "She charged in with the ball and made a beautiful shot," he adds.
McKinleigh Young received District Goalie MVP and Cassie Groves received the Overall District MVP for the '22 season.
This year's team captains are: Cassie Groves (sr), Ava Hicks (sr), Anna Kate Saylor (so).
"These girls have encouraged the team on and off the field making them the players and team they are today," Simon says proudly of the team's leaders.
On Tuesday, October 18, the War Eagles will play host for the first round of the regional tournament where they will face Central Magnet (Murfreesboro).
