Softball and baseball seasons are here, and players have a new option for practice when the weather isn’t so great.

Jeffrey Cannon, owner of Cheatham Sports Academy, opened the new indoor batting and pitching facility on March 1. Cannon said there are multiple hitting stations available with a tee and nets in the facility, which is located inside the old Boys Ranch gymnasium on Ranch Road in Ashland City, Tenn.

The facility became a reality after about three years of searching for a suitable location, he said.

Cannon, who is involved with a local girls’ softball league and has three teen daughters in middle school and high school softball, said he and other players’ families felt there was a need for an indoor practice space. While the gymnasium is still a work-in-progress, Cannon said he’s had friends and neighbors and community members offer to help.

“We hope to have our baseball pitching machine in a few weeks,” he said. “Down the road, after we get other repairs done, we would like to work on having an indoor basketball court,” Cannon said.

The facility is currently open by appointment only, 6-9 p.m. weeknights and weekends.
