Cheatham County Wrestling Club wrestler, Walker Hobbs, competed in the AAU Beginner State Wrestling Tournament in Cleveland, Tennessee, on January 28, 2024.
Walker bumped up from the 140lb weight class to the 145lb weight class in order to face tougher competition. After winning his first match (4-0), he pinned his second opponent to make it to the championship match. In his championship match, Walker took the bottom position going into the second period. Escaping from the bottom position in the last few seconds of the period, he took a lead of 1-0 going into the third period. His opponent chose the bottom position to start the third period where he was unable to escape Walker's dominating top position ride. Walker ultimately won the match by one point to secure the 145lb AAU Beginner State Championship title.
Hobbs is a current eighth-grader at Cheatham Middle.
