The Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association is inviting the community to a free patriotic concert celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The concert will take place on June 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Gateway Church, located at 1642 Highway 12 in Ashland City. The event is free and open to the public.
The evening will feature the Cumberland Winds Concert Band performing a patriotic program titled "250 Years of American Music" under the direction of Mike Ritter.
According to organizers, the program will take attendees on a musical journey through American history, beginning with music from the Revolutionary War era and continuing through the 1800s, the Civil War, and the 20th century. Selections will showcase a variety of American musical styles, ranging from fife and drum music to Big Band swing and featuring works associated with George Gershwin, Patsy Cline, John Williams, and Elvis Presley.
Vocalists Charlie King and Sarah Queen will also perform as part of the program.
The Cumberland Winds organization promotes excellence in wind and jazz ensembles through professional-level performances, public concerts, musical support for private events, musical training, and master classes for students and adults throughout the Tennessee Cumberland River region.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Cumberland Winds also sponsors scholarships for local high school students pursuing private instrumental instruction through the Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University.
Community members are encouraged to attend and enjoy an evening of music celebrating 250 years of American history and culture.
