Cheatham, Sycamore Wrestlers Qualify for State

The TSSAA Girls West Regional Wrestling Tournament and Boys Section 4 Wrestling Tournament were held on Friday, February 16, and Saturday, February 17, respectively.


In the Girls West Regional Wrestling Tournament, Cheatham County Central High School wrestler, Amanda Thomason, secured third place at the 114 lb weight class to advance to the TSSAA State Championship Tournament. This will be Thomason’s third time qualifying for the State Championship Tournament. Thomason has placed one other time in prior state championships.


In the Boys Section 4 Wrestling Tournament, the Cheatham County Central High School Boys dominated on the day. Of the 11 wrestlers advancing to the sectional tournament, eight of them qualified for the state championship tournament. This is a new school record for Cheatham County Central High School.


Sumner Boyd – 3rd place – 126 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Adan Alvarez – 2nd place – 132 lbs, Cheatham’s first four-time State Qualifier. Alvarez has placed at the state championship on two other past occasions. Alvarez also secured "Best Match of the Day" against Sycamore’s, Trey Moreland. 

Cooper Cantrell – 4th place – 157 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Ethan Steele – 3rd place – 165 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Gage Forsythe – 1st place – 175 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Jose Orego – 3rd place – 190 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Landon Morris – 1st place – 215 lbs – third-time state qualifier

Roger Gonzalez – 2nd place – 285 lbs – first-time state qualifier


Cheatham County Central High School Wrestling Team secured second place as a team in the TSSAA Section 4 Tournament out of the 12 Teams competing – also a first for the schooll. 

Sycamore had four wrestlers advance to the TSSAA State Championship Tournament: 

Ray Felts – 4th place – 120 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Trey Moreland – 1st place – 132 lbs, fourth-time state qualifier

Colton Long – 4th place – 150 lbs, first-time state qualifier

Dylan Davenport – 1st place – 157 lbs, fourht-time state qualifier. Davenport has placed at the state championship three times in the past.


Sycamore placed seventh out of the 12 Teams competing in the TSSAA Section 4 Wrestling Tournament. 


The TSSAA State Championship will be held at the Williams County Agricultural Center on February 23-24.
