Cheatham, Sycamore Finish Strong in TSSAA Region 7 Tournament

The TSSAA Boys Region 7A High School Wrestling Tournament was held on February 10, 2024, at Montgomery Central High School.12 high school wrestling programs competed: Montgomery Central, Fairview, Cheatham County Central, James Lawson, Sycamore, Creek Wood, Harpeth, Hume Fogg Academic Magnet, Martin Luther King, Pearl Cohn, Glencliff, and Tennessee School For The Blind. 


Each program entered their varsity wrestlers for each of the 14 weight classes. Wrestlers finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes (top 5 for a select number of weight classes) advanced to the TSSAA Boys Sectional 4 Class A Tournament scheduled for next weekend, February 17, hosted by Harpeth High School. 


Out of the 12 teams in the tournament, Cheatham County Central High School placed third with 195 points, and Sycamore High School placed fifth with 114.5 points.


Cheatham County Central High School entered 11 wrestlers into the Regional Tournament and advanced all 11 wrestlers to the sectional tournament next weekend:

Jose Orego – 2nd 190 lbs

Adan Alvarez – 2nd 132 lbs

Landon Morris – 1st 215 lbs

Ethan Steele – 2nd 165 lbs

Roger Gonzalez – 1st 285 lbs

Cooper Cantrell – 2nd 157 lbs

Gage Forsythe – 2nd 175 lbs

Sumner Boyd – 2nd 126 lbs and Best Match of the Tournament

Caden Ospina – 4th 138 lbs

Kekoa Jines – 4th 150 lbs

Magnus Johnson – 5th 113 lbs


Sycamore High School also entered eight wrestlers into the regional tournament, and advanced four wrestlers to the upcoming sectional tournament:

Ray Felts – 2nd 120 lbs

Trey Moreland – 1st 126 lbs

Colton Long – 2nd 150 lbs

Dylan Davenport – 1st 157 lbs

  The top four wrestlers from each weight class in the sectional tournament advance to the TSSAA State Championship Tournament on February 23-24 at the Williams Agriculture Center in Franklin, TN.
