Booby Bolt to Honor Late Pleasant View Resident Doris Drake

Longtime Pleasant View resident and community volunteer Doris Drake will be remembered during Pink Out for Hope’s 13th annual Booby Bolt 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 3. Drake, who passed from breast cancer in 2024, spent decades serving the Pleasant View community through her work and volunteer efforts.

She and her husband, T.R. Drake, raised their family in Pleasant View. Drake worked at The Blanket Store on Highway 41A before beginning more than 40 years of service at the Pleasant View Utility District office.

Her community involvement also included serving as a member of the women’s auxiliary of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department and collecting auction items for the annual Pleasant View Picnic and Auction. Her husband was a founding member of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department and served as its chief for 23 years.

This year’s Booby Bolt will honor Drake’s memory while raising money to assist others facing breast cancer. Pink Out for Hope is a nonprofit organization that provides monetary grants to local breast cancer patients as they undergo treatment, and the Booby Bolt serves as the organization’s primary annual fundraiser.

The event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Community Park, 2501 Pleasant View Road.

The one-mile Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and younger begins at 8 a.m., followed by a Survivors’ Recognition Walk at 8:15 a.m. The walk recognizes breast cancer survivors and the number of years they have survived following their diagnosis. Participating survivors will receive a special T-shirt and may gather at a survivor tent for refreshments.

The professionally timed Booby Bolt 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. Placement medals will be awarded in several age categories, along with awards for the top male and female finishers. All registered participants will receive a participation medal.

Registration for the Kids Fun Run is $20 per child and must be completed before race day. Registration for the 5K is $40 per person or $35 per person for teams of eight or more. Team registration will not be available on race day. Individual race-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. for $50 per person.

Participants who register by Sept. 15 are guaranteed an event T-shirt. Those who cannot attend but would like to support Pink Out for Hope may register online as a “Booby Buddy.”

Race bibs and swag bags may be picked up at Legends Bank, 2528 Highway 49 in Pleasant View, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.; Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon.
