Bingo for the Hungry, Stuffed Stockings for Senior Citizens

The North Cheatham Civitan Club is diving into the holiday season with two ventures designed around helping others.

To start, they will be hosting Bingo Night at the Livery Stables in Pleasant View on January 28 from 6:30- 8PM.

While the event is “free” to attend, the Civitan Club is asking for donations of canned food at the door. The donations will go to Columbus Jones and the Pearlie Payne King Mission of Hope to help fill the Thanksgiving boxes they distribute to the hungry each year.

Attendees must be 16 or over to attend, and light snacks will be served.

Another project the Pleasant View-based club is working on is collecting stockings for local senior citizens.

“During the beginning of the pandemic, Kelly Ellis of The Livery Stables received a grant to help feed senior citizens,” says Heather Curtis, North Cheatham Civitan President-elect and Secretary. “She compiled a list of around 400 people that needed assistance. A lot are shut ins.”

They aim to distribute holiday stockings filled with things like socks, gloves, candy, puzzles, lotion, and other “sweet sentiments” to seniors who may be lonely, isolated, or in need of assistance.
