What is Colby’s Army?

Colby's Army, established in 2009, came to Cheatham County in the spring of 2016 from Fairview, Tennessee.

The idea was formed after Lisa Wysocky tragically lost her son, Colby, to mental illness and addiction. Turning that tragedy into hope for countless others, she continues to make a difference in the lives of others who face homelessness and a variety other life challenges.

Operating on 54 acres of Ashland City land, the nonprofit helps people with various challenges through outreach and interactions with animals and nature. Programs include therapeutic riding, equine assisted ground-based activities, job training, gardening, and even homeless outreach.

On the grounds, visitors will find a tranquil river, an obstacle course, therapy animals, and hiking/riding trails. The barn on the property, where the Extravaganza is held, is as rich in history as it is inviting. Once owned by both Opry legend Ray Pillow and country music star Lee Greenwood, the barn is used for classes, events, education, stocking and storing items for the homeless, arts and crafts, social gatherings, and even photo and video shoots.

Helping Through Donations

In order to help keep the operation running, Colby’s Army will always accept financial donations to assist with mortgage, utilities, and insurance. Donations in form of hay, cat food, and office supplies are also incredibly helpful.

Volunteer Opportunities

After attending new volunteer orientation and other more specialized training, volunteers can assist with things like horse therapy, animal care, building projects, gardening, office work, trail construction, homeless outreach, and much more.
