In an effort to address concerns surrounding youth access to marijuana and vaping products, the Cheatham County Community Enhancement Coalition has started a new partnership with CBD/vape shops in Cheatham County. According to TN Together’s 2022 Student Survey, 24% of Cheatham County students found it very easy to access marijuana products, and 33% found it very easy to get a vaping device.

To tackle this issue, the Coalition is strengthening the barrier between youth and these products. As part of this initiative, four prominent shops in the county (Hemp Island, Hi 5 Smoke, The Good Vape Shop + CBD, and Clear Sky Vapors) have received comprehensive training kits outlining the latest Tennessee laws about CBD and hemp products, as well as a supply of lockboxes. These lockboxes serve to prevent access for small children and pets but include a sticker with poison control lines in case of accidental consumption.

Marijuana and vape products have an impact on the developing brain. Therefore, the Coalition is empowering local shops, consumers, and parents with the knowledge and tools necessary to mitigate the associated risks and protect the health of our youth.

In addition to providing resources to shops, the Coalition offers lockboxes free from their office. Lockboxes are a great tool to prevent children and pets from accessing medication, tobacco, or hemp products. Stop by 395 S. Main Street, Ashland City, to pick up your lockbox.
