During the regular meeting of the Cheatham County School Board on Aug. 13, board members heard how the district is working to keep the lines of communication open between schools and parents.
Tim Adkins, Director of Communications, presented research which showed parents were overall pleased with how the district handles communications, and that the most favored channels of communications were email, social media, and the district website. Adkins said more than 500 survey respondents were interested in a district electronic newsletter, which the district expects to implement in September.
A resource guide for parents is also in the works, also with a target release date of next month. Other plans of increasing community engagement include virtual meetings with parents, job fairs for students, and creating regional partnerships with other school districts.
In other business, the board approved a revised budget for capital projects of $3.1 million. Members also voted in favor of revising the Budget Fund 141 with a deficit of $429,069 based on final BEP figures. A cash transfer of $200,000 in general purpose funds into the school nutrition fund was also approved by the board, as well as Carl Perkins Basic funds of $74,725 and IDEA Part B additional allocation of $29,550.
The board and Dr. Cathy Beck, Director of Schools, bid farewell to outgoing Third District School Board Member Jennifer Hamblin. Hamblin was defeated in the August election by Tim Ray, a retired teacher and coach from Cheatham County Central High School.
