A beloved Cheatham County Sergeant who suffered a medical emergency and wrecked while off duty has died. Sgt. Carl Lyttle died Monday afternoon, not quite a week after he crashed into a tree along Frey Street, according to Sheriff Mike Breedlove.
Sgt. Lyttle was known as “Superman” for his love of physical fitness, was heading to work out at the gym last Tuesday when he suffered a heart attack, Breedlove said. The sergeant’s truck hit a tree during the accident.
Ashland City Police Reserve Officer Steven Ellis saw what happened and rushed to give aid. Ellis worked to resuscitate Sgt. Lyttle as emergency crews were called.
Medical teams stabilized Sgt. Lyttle and then he was transferred to Nashville. Law enforcement escorted his ambulance.
Sgt. Carl Lyttle was also a longtime member of 24Church in Pleasant View. He is survived by his wife Teresa and two children.
