Football returned to Cheatham County on August 21 when the Sycamore War Eagles hosted the Greenbrier Bobcats.
The first quarter found both teams trying unsuccessfully to gain a strong foothold.
When the teams finally settled down, the War Eagles completed a short field goal for a three-point lead. However, the visiting Cats had no intentions of giving up.
Before the teams retired for halftime, the visitors recovered a fumble in the Sycamore end zone for two, and with 6 minutes remaining, scored again. The point after was blocked, and the first half ended with the visitors holding a 15-3 lead.
The third quarter continued much like the first two--- as a defensive battle for both teams. But near the end of the quarter, the Bobcats scored again on a 27 yard pass. The extra point was blocked, but the Bobcats then settled in with a 21-3 lead.
As the final quarter progressed, the teams continued to battle up and down the field with little success.
Then, midway through the quarter, Grady McPherson connected with Houston Hudspeth for a 24-yard reception to give the home team a score, but the extra point failed.
When the final horn sounded, the visitors were able to return home with a 21-9 victory.
