The Cheatham County Community Enhancement Coalition, in partnership with the TN Dept of Health Cheatham and UT/TSU Extension, is taking action to end modern slavery through the Red Sand Project, a participatory artwork created by Molly Gochman to raise awareness and take action against human trafficking.
Today, Red Sand Project actions have taken place in all 50 states and in 70 countries worldwide, with more than one million participants.
The Red Sand Project Partners will be distributing bags of red sand for the community to pour into the sidewalk cracks of Cheatham County, calling attention to those who have “fallen through the cracks.”
Distribution of the red sandbags will take place at the H.G. Hill Food Store Parking lot located at 2498 Highway 49 East, Pleasant View, TN 37146.
Cheatham Coalition staff and volunteers will be at the H.G. Hill Food Store Monday, August 3 – Friday, August 7 every day from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
After pouring your bag of red sand in the cracks of the community sidewalk, post a photo to social media with the hashtags #REDSANDTN, #CHEATHAMREDSAND, and #ITHASTOSTOP. Your post will enter you into a drawing for a themed gift basket! Posts without all three hashtags will not be eligible.
Drawing will take place on Monday, August 10, 2020. If you have any questions about the Red Sand Project event, please call the Cheatham Coalition at (615) 246-8075.
