'Contagion Defender' Spreads Message, Smiles Around Pleasant View

Last week, 78-year-old Pleasant View resident Alberto Garcia brought about many smiles when he went into two local stores— H.G. Hills and Dollar General Market—dressed as the “Contagion Defender.”

His over-the-top spin on safety included a hazmat suit, gloves, goggles, mask, and even a face shield.

Garcia said it is a “suit based on science,” and he came up with the idea to stress the importance of protecting yourself and others during the pandemic.

With plans to reappear around town, Garcia hopes his message not only brings a bit of brightness to a dark period of time, but also helps people understand the importance of protection.
