Sycamore Wrestlers, Coach Honored Despite Canceled Banquet

While the Sycamore High School wrestling team achieved a successful 2019/20 season--despite it coming to an unexpected close, season-ending accomplishments were not celebrated and recognition banquets were postponed/canceled as a result of the pandemic.

Finishing the Season

In February, Sycamore was represented in the state championship matches by: 120-lb Logan Heckert (F), 126-lb Luke London (F), 132-lb. Dalen Kimble (SO), 145-lb Mark Helser (J), 220-lb Aiden Barker (SR), and HWT Ariel Rojas Avila (J).

Placing in this year's tournament and gaining all-state honors were: Heckert (4th), Kimble (2nd), and Helser (6th).

Recognition

Due to the pandemic, the A-AA Middle Tennessee Coach's Association annual banquet was canceled. To earn a position on the mid-state team, wrestlers are nominated and voted for by coaches in the region.

Sycamore was represented by Heckert (120-lb) who placed fourth in the state as a freshman, boasting a record of 47-5.

Kimble (132-lb) placed second in the state as a sophomore-- beating three returning medalists to do it. His record was 27-8.

Helser (145-lb) placed sixth in the state as a junior with a record of 34-12. He also received the resiliency award.

Sycamore High School received additional recognition when their head wrestling coach, Steve Hamblin, was named A-AA Middle Tennessee Coach of the Year.
