A locally-focused documentary highlights the impact the historic 2010 flood had on Cheatham County.
The idea, sparked by Ashland City native Tyler Binkley, came just in time for the 10-year anniversary of the devastating natural disaster.
“The idea of doing a documentary on this event is something that I've wanted to do since college, so when the 10-year anniversary was approaching, I couldn't think of a better time to do one,” Binkley says.
The 18 minute emotionally-charged feature focuses mainly on the rising waters of May 1 and 2, 2010. In a timeline-of-event format, residents and business owners are interviewed, and devastating visuals from across the county are shown.

To start the project, Binkley reached out through his Facebook page, Cheatham County Weather, to compile photos and video footage from residents.
“It wasn't long before the submissions started to really pour in,” he says.
Brandon Jarrett, a journalist at WBKO in Bowling Green, helped Binkley piece it all together.

Full interviews, as well as the ones seen in the documentary, will be published to Binkley’s Youtube Channel, Cheatham County Weather, in the coming weeks.
While his background is in meteorology, Binkley chose the path of teaching and ministry. “Meteorology has become more of a hobby,” he said. “That is what I went to college for, but once I got out of college, I realized that is not what I wanted to do as a career.”
Part of that hobby is running the Cheatham County Weather Facebook page. Binkley began the page in 2013. The goal of the page is to keep citizens informed and safe during severe weather, he says.
