State Rep. Mary Littleton, R-Dickson and State Sen Kerry Roberts, R-Springfield announced this week that Ashland City will receive a $650,560 for the Bicentennial Trail Extension. The project will convert a rail bed to a greenway adjacent to Main Street from Chapmansboro Road to Tennessee Waltz Parkway.
The project also includes a pedestrian bridge, landscaping, a retaining wall and pedestrian amenities.
“I’m pleased that these funds will help provide for these very worthy projects,” said Littleton. "Improving our amenities for walking and biking is essential to the continued growth and success of Ashland City by creating more livable communities for our residents. I applaud our local leaders for working with TDOT to secure this grant.”
TDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program is a competitive grant program made possible through a federally funded program administered by TDOT.
“This grant greatly enhances and improves these facilities and encourages people to get out and be more active. The improvements will add to the many reasons that make Ashland City such a great place to live and work,” said Roberts.
The competitive TAP grant program began providing funds to local governments in 1991. More than $317 million in grants has been distributed by TDOT since to improve access and provide a better quality of life for the people of Tennessee. The money has gone to 267 communities across the Volunteer State to build sidewalks, bike and pedestrian trails and to renovate historic train depots and other transportation related structures.
