Cheatham County will be one of 21 counties to benefit from a Comcast broadband grant.
Earlier today, Governor Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe announced $19.7 million in broadband accessibility grants that will expand service to support 31,000 unserved Tennesseans in nearly 12,700 households and businesses.
According to Cheatham County Mayor Kerry McCarver, the local areas encompassed in the grant are Highway 12 from the Davidson County line to the Industrial Park area.
The Petway community, he said, will also see broadband come their way.
“Comcast has applied for the last three years, and this year they were finally able to secure the grant,” McCarver stated. “This is quality-of-life-changing news for these areas that have had little to no internet options. The options such as satellite were very expensive and not high speed and reliable.”
Broadband service will allow residents the ability to work from home and students to connect to the internet.
“One of my top priorities is ensuring the success of rural Tennessee. With the assistance of these grants, communities across 21 counties will now have access to broadband that will aid in that success,” Gov. Lee said.
A timeline for the start of construction and buildout should be announced within the next couple of months.
