Smiley Steps Back Up to the Plate, Announces PVAA Play Day

A beloved baseball coach is stepping back up to the plate, this time as a volunteer coach for the Pleasant View Athletic Association. PVAA President Daniel Smiley, who coached at Sycamore High School for 12 years until he switched careers about a year ago, will be coaching his son’s 9/10 team. “I chose to help out because I saw a need to help out, and not to mention I’m itching to get back into it and help these young baseball players develop,” Smiley said.

He’s adjusting to his coaching role as the PVAA announces its Play Day March 21 at Pleasant View Elementary, starting at 9 a.m. “Softball and baseball will be playing most of the day. We’ll have a full concession stand, with barbecue being the main course. We will sell $5 sandwiches and by the pound for $12/lb. We just pray for great weather and a bunch of hungry people,” he said.

Flag football signups will be held that day as well. “These flag football games will be played on Sunday afternoons in the spring. We will not have baseball or softball on Sunday’s in the spring in hopes that will increase participation for this wonderful opportunity,” Smiley said.

Everyone is welcome to attend and volunteer. “If anyone wants to help out, they can contact our board members and let us know what you want to help with. We always can use umpires and various other volunteers or advertisement sign sponsorships,” he said. You can find the PVAA on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PVBALL/.
