Cubs Host Patriots for Valentine's Day Matchup, Senior Night

The Cheatham County Cubs celebrated Valentine's Day with Senior Night and taking on the Patriots from White House Heritage.

The ladies began with a tough battle against a determined team. The Lady Patriots took an early lead and kept the pressure on the home team taking a one-point lead to the locker room at halftime. When play resumed, the Cubs found themselves battling to catch up but slowly loosing ground. The third quarter ended with the home team down 42-36, and the ladies huddled with Coach Jim Gibbs for a new game plan and some inspiring words.

Coach Gibbs told the ladies, "we have eight more minutes to play, and we can do this." The ladies proved him right, tying it up at 36 and sending the game into overtime. From that point on, it was back-and forth-for four minutes. The Lady Patriots ran into foul trouble and the Cubs took advantage of the situation, hammering in the points and sending the visitors home with a 50-42 loss. Leading the scoring for the Cubs was Ansley Pfeffer with 15.

The guys took the floor and found themselves in a similar battle. The Cubs kept up a fast-paced game and were accurate in shooting, but a height disadvantage hindered them on the backboards. At halftime, the Patriots held a three-point lead of 27-24. When they returned for the second half, the Patriots kept up the pace and the home team seemed to have lost their luster.

The Patriots intercepted several passes and were able to capitalize with fast breaks and held a 42-36 lead going into the final quarter. The Cubs, however, were not going to just give up. They kept pressure on the visitors and started a comeback. But the visiting Patriots managed to hold on the last few minutes, taking a 50-44 victory back home to White House. Top scorer for the Cubs was Maverick Lee with 11.

Between games, time was taken to recognize senior players for their accomplishments. Additionally, the Cheatham Middle School Lady Bearcats were introduced and recognized for their superb season. Under the leadership of Coach Michael Carter and Assistant Coach Kristina Pardue, the ladies finished with a 24-2 record and were the MTHC Conference Regional Season Champions, District Tournament Champions, TMSAA Regional Tournament Champions, and TMSAA State Sectional Runner Ups.
