Lady Cubs Ward Off Rebels, Men Fall Despite Come-back Efforts

December 24, 2019

On Friday night, December 19, the Rebels of Stewart County came to town to battle on the hardwood against the Cubs of Cheatham County.

The ladies opened the show and the Rebels proved they came out to play some serious basketball. They took an early lead and finished the first quarter with a one-point lead. But coach Jim Gibbs settled down his Cubs, and they rallied together before the half, nailing several three-point shots. The Lady Cubs went into the locker room at half time leading 33-27. The ladies returned to the floor and kept up the heat, eventually sending the Lady Rebels home defeated, 62-51.

When the men took the floor, it was obvious the Rebels wanted revenge. The race was close and like the ladies, the Rebels ended the first quarter leading by one. The second quarter, though, was a turning point in the game as the Rebels burned up the net and the backboards, taking a comfortable 30-19 lead to the lockers. When the teams returned for the second half, the Cubs settled down and began to attempt a come back but the visitors would not back down. When the game ended, the Rebels shocked the home team by taking home a 64-52 win.

Top scorers for the Cubs were Alli Douglas with 20 and for the men, Silas Hunter with 16.
