New Cheatham County Sports Hall of Fame Created

Individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Cheatham County athletics on the high school, college or professional level will be recognized through the newly-created Cheatham County Sports Hall of Fame.

The organization will announce the inaugural class in early 2020 and a banquet will be held in the summer to honor the inductees.

Tim Ray, a retired Cheatham County coach, administrator and teacher, spearheaded the creation of the CCSHOF.

“Cheatham County has a rich athletics history. It’s a history that is in need of a fitting showcase and proper recognition. That was the inspiration for creating the Hall of Fame: to celebrate and pay tribute to those individuals who set the standards of excellence,” Ray said.

Individuals who played or coached at Cheatham County Central High School, Harpeth High School and Sycamore High School will be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame.

Inductees will not be limited to past high school athletes from Cheatham County. Other athletes have risen to prominence in their adult lives and outside of sanctioned sports in high schools, and they will be inducted as well, according to Ray.

Additionally, individuals who have made outstanding contributions to sports in Cheatham County off of the fields, courts and other venues of competition will be honored for meritorious service and inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 13-member Hall of Fame board of directors initially met in the summer of 2019.

Individuals who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the non-profit Hall of Fame organization can send a donation to 344 Peeblebrook Drive, Ashland City, TN 37015 (checks should be made to “Cheatham County Sports Hall of Fame.”)

The Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association will display memorabilia featuring Hall of Fame members at the Cheatham County Museum in Ashland City.

A Facebook page for the organization is in the process of being created to keep the community informed with up-to-date information.

Additionally, the community will have the opportunity to nominate individuals for future Hall of Fame classes.
