Second graders donned uniforms from all branches of the U.S. military and marched and sang in honor of military veterans in West Cheatham’s “Thank You Veterans” program on Nov. 7. Principal Amber Raymer opened the event by asking all to honor and cherish veterans in the community and nation for their sacrifices.
After the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, students waved flags and sang, “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and other patriotic favorites under the direction of music teacher Kaye Hunter. Second graders also played the glockenspiel to “This Land is Your Land.”
Local veterans were recognized in the conclusion of the program and were given special certificates hand-written by second graders from the classes of teachers Amy Gasser, Robin Higdon, Jenny Lockerman, and Stephanie Stevens.
