After wrapping up the regular season with a 9-4-3 record by beating both Nolensville (2-0) and Northwest (7-2), the Sycamore War Eagle varsity boys soccer team faced Cheatham (6-2), and Kenwood (3-0) in the district tournament; the two wins advanced them to the District 9AA Championship game held on May 10 against Fairview.

Despite Fairview pulling ahead with the first goal early in the game, sophomore Micah Webb tied it up at the end of the first half. Strong defense from both teams kept the matchup steady at 1-1 until sophomore Landon Gleaves scored an unassisted goal with 16:28 left in the second half to give the War Eagles the lead. Sycamore pulled off their first district victory since 2005, ultimately beating Fairview 2-1.

On Tuesday, May 14, the boys continued their positive momentum with a 2-1 win over Murfreesboro Central Magnet in the first round of regional tournament play. Murfreesboro Central went up 1-0 in the first half, but senior Juan Rodriquez scored Sycamore’s first goal to tie it up. Senior Ethan Ivey then scored the War Eagle’s final goal with less than five minutes left in regulation play.

This win advanced the team to the regional championship game scheduled for May 16, and a sectional game set for May 18—making it the first time in school history that the boys’ team has made an appearance this far in the post season. A win in the sectionals will give the War Eagles a bid at the state tournament.
