Pleasant View Maintains ‘Safest City’ Ranking

A recently released annual report from SafeWise names Pleasant View as Tennessee’s second safest city.

With a population of 4,382 and median income of $80,838, as the report outlines, Pleasant View had a violent crime rate of .23 per 1,000 and a property crime rate of 15.06 per 1,000 in 2018.

To identify and rank the 20 safest cities in the state, SafeWise reviewed recent FBI crime report statistics and census population data.

The overall safety evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes that include: aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery.

To “level the playing field,” SafeWise calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city, better allowing them to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.

“I am incredibly proud of the Pleasant View Police Department and the work that they have put into our community to help us achieve this ranking for the second year in a row,” said Pleasant View Mayor Perry Keenan.

Keenan also attributes the SafeWise ranking to Sheriff Mike Breedlove and his team at the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office as well as residents themselves.

“Citizens who report suspicious activity is a big help,” he said. “The camaraderie and assistance of Sheriff Mike Breedlove and his department should not be overlooked either. It is truly a community effort.”

In their list of “20 Safest Cities in Tennessee,” SafeWise names Belle Meade as number one. Other cities in the area that made the list were Brentwood, Coopertown, Spring Hill Mount Juliet, and Hendersonville.

“What an accomplishment,” Keenan added. “Everyone should be proud.”
