Three Cheatham County School District teachers are pursuing a volunteer educational experience this summer in Belize. As part of their professional development, Audra Fowler, Brooke Daugherty, and Jenifer Binkley applied for, and have been accepted as Limited Resource Teacher Training fellows for the summer of 2019.
With this fellowship, local teachers, along with other teachers from across the country, will help to develop the community of Belmopan, Belize by training teachers.
The LRTT Fellowship supports a belief system that cooperative learning builds success. Building success for teachers, individuals with a significant impact on the world’s youth, supports a successful global future. Teachers in Belize face incredible challenges such as under-funded training, few resources in their classrooms and an increased student dropout rate due to the high priority of agricultural labor over an education. Many schools in the country do not receive adequate funding and their teachers do not receive enough training and, therefore, rely on any help they can receive from other sources.
During this one month fellowship, Audra, Brooke, and Jenifer will work closely with teachers, lead training workshops, and coach them to improve teaching practices.
These teachers are proud to represent Cheatham County in this endeavor and hope you can come out to walk or run on April 6 in support! Race information and registration can be found at https://racesonline.com/events/teachbelize5k.
