BBB Helps Businesses and Organizations Prep for Active Shooter Event

Due to popular demand, Better Business Bureau Serving Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have teamed up again to help business owners and organizations learn lifesaving techniques to survive an active shooter situation.

C.R.A.S.E, Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 9AM – 11AM at the Pinnacle Down Under located at 430 Warfield Blvd, Clarksville, TN (37043). There is no cost to attend.

This two-hour active shooter workshop has been designed to provide public and private sector businesses with the tools needed to develop active shooter plans for their businesses and facilities. The course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University.

According to ALERRT’s ADD website, the ADD strategy involves avoiding the threat by moving away as quickly as possible, denying the threat by creating barriers and being prepared to defend yourself if the “avoid” and ”deny” methods fail.

The workshop will include the following topics:

  • The history of active shooter events

  • Potential workplace violence indicators

  • Civilian response options

  • Scenario-based exercise on handling an active shooter incident

RSVP is required and seating is limited. To reserve your seat, contact Melanie Thompson at mthompson@gobbb.org or call 931-503-2210.
