A longstanding election night tradition will continue on the Cheatham County Courthouse lawn on August 2, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Election results will be posted on the front steps of the historic Cheatham County Courthouse starting with the early voting results expected be released around 7 p.m. as polls across the county close. Additional results will be posted as they are released from the Cheatham County Election Office.
The challenge was for the tradition to continue in an age of social media when in previous elections, a large chalkboard or overhead projector was used to post the results.
Ashland City Fire Chief Chuck Walker said four years ago, the results were known and the crowd was leaving before the numbers could be posted on the boards.
This year, the tradition will use a projector with the Cheatham County Election office website to post the results as soon as the totals are released.
The public is invited to gather and share the results with candidates, families, and supporters. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
In the event of rain, the General Sessions Courtroom will be used to post results.
