'Lack of Community Support' Closes Pioneer Diner

The doors to Pleasant View’s Pioneer Diner are closed, says owner Chris Carvalho.

Carvalho officially announced early Monday morning that after only nine months in business, it was time to shut the doors to the Village-based eatery citing lack of community support.

“They should learn to support the local people- whether it’s a bar or restaurant,” Carvalho says. “The truth of the matter is, I do not believe the people of Cheatham County in Pleasant View want a family restaurant. We are not going to lose everything we own for the sake of these people in this town,” he adds.

Further echoing Carvalho's thoughts on the matter, a hand-written note on the door reads: "The Pioneer Diner is closed forever due to lack of support from the community. Please support the bars and fast food...That is all you have left."

As for the future, Carvalho says he will go back to work, spend more time with his wife and family, and attend church.

He also states that there are no plans for food service on the horizon because "these people can’t appreciate when somebody brings something good to them.”

Before becoming the Pioneer Diner, the space was occupied by The Village Diner which closed last August after four years in business.
