May 28th 10:00 AM
The Cheatham County Veterans Service Office (VSO) is hosting the 6th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and free picnic with live entertainment on Monday May 28th. The ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 AM and will be held at the Ashland City Riverbluff Park Pavilion.
Special emphasis this year will be the sacrifices made by our Gold Star Mothers and Families. This includes mothers and immediate relatives of service-members who have been killed in combat or in support of certain military activities. If you know of a Gold Star Family member, encourage them to attend and let the VSO know so that we may honor them by name at the ceremony. We shall also pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of World War One, the “war to end all wars.”
Another highlight this year will be the return of the Field of Honor (FOH) flag display. The display is made up of 62 US flags, each one representing a Cheatham County military member who lost their lives in wars past and present. Included in the display are US service flags representing each branch of the military, a POW/MIA flag, and new this year is the Gold Star Family flag.
The FOH display will remain on the courthouse lawn until May 23rd when it will then be moved to Riverbluff Park for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The display will remain there throughout the Summerfest celebration.
