After a two day on-site investigation into a wooded area in Ashland City where human remains were found, authorities wrapped up the scene around 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 10.
The investigation continues, however, into the circumstances surrounding the deceased victim who was discovered by a local hunter Saturday afternoon. The scene encompassed a burned-out vehicle that contained human remains found approximately 150 yards off of Wiley Pardue Road.
Due to the complexities of the case, the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office was joined by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) as well as the MTSU Forensic Anthropology Department, the Department of Safety (Auto Theft Division), Cheatham County EMS, the Nashville Medical Examiner's Office, and the District Attorney's Office.
"There has not been a determination as to the identity of the individual found deceased in the vehicle. It is also unknown how long the vehicle has been at that location," says TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland.
The remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville.
The investigation is still active and ongoing, according to the TBI.
