Veterans, officials, and invested citizens came out to a bridge-naming ceremony on the morning of September 2. The event began at the Cheatham County Courthouse and then proceeded, by motorcade, to Marrow Bone Creek Bridge on Highway 12, where the new Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge sign was revealed.
Although it took months to complete the project, the unwavering help and support of many individuals made it a reality. According to Robert Counter, the VSO director who coordinated the ceremony, City Council member Lisa Walker, Ashland City Mayor Rick Johnson, State Representative Mary Littleton, and veteran Army specialist Walter Weakley all played major roles in bringing to project to fruition.
“The dedication of this bridge culminates the honoring of Vietnam veterans that began with the naming of three bridges and one highway honoring the four Cheatham County military members that lost their lives in service to our country during the Vietnam War,” said Counter.
