Pleasant View Announces Plans to Help Hurricane Victims

Beginning tomorrow morning, donations for Texas residents hit by Hurricane Harvey will be accepted at Pleasant View City Hall located at 1008 Civic Court. Mayor Perry Kennan encourages people to come out between 10 AM- 6 PM on August 30 to donate and/or volunteer. Donations will be accepted at least through the end of the week or until the truck is filled.

Dillon Transportation has volunteered a truck, a trailer, and even a driver to take the items raised through this effort down to Texas. They are also willing to provide a second truck and run to Texas if needed.

Because of this generous offer from Dillon Transportation, Mayor Keenan has also urged civic organization that is collecting donations but does not have a way to get them to the areas of need, to bring them to City Hall so they can be taken to Texas.

Items Requested:

Hygiene: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, shampoo, and soaps.

Living Essentials: NEW folding cots, thick yoga mats or camping mats, blankets, pillows, towels, and sheets. Because thousands of people will be housed in close proximity in shelters, these specific items need to be NEW in order to help prevent lice and bed bugs.

If you are donating clothes, they ask that they are washed first and then packed in totes, if possible, for easy stacking in the trailer and for people to be able to carry by hand. Wall plug cell phone chargers, portable chargers for cell phones or tablets, and small extension cords with multiple outlets are also needed.

Food: Pre-packaged and easily-sealed foods are best in this type of situation. Since most recipients will not have means to cook or keep things cool, it is suggested to focus on non-perishable items that can be easily eaten and stored.

Baby: Diapers, toiletries, powders, diaper creams etc.

Cleaning: 5-gallon buckets, bleach, cleaning products, gloves, scrub brushes, paper towels, sponges, and cleaning wipes. Trash bags will also be very helpful.

If you have any questions about donations or volunteer opportunities, please call City Hall at 615-746-0600 or call/text Mayor Keenan at 615-336-3401.
