Local School Encourages Cheatham County to Help Hurricane Harvey Victims

Amy Pemberton, 8th-grade Language Arts teacher at Cheatham Middle School (CMS), has been working tirelessly to coordinate an aid-rendering effort for the many victims of Hurricane Harvey.

While giving students an important lesson in helping others, Pemberton has coordinated the collection of donations for the victims of the destructive natural disaster that has recently caused massive devastation across Texas.

“We are proud to be a school that teaches our students that we should always help others,” says Pemberton.

In addition to students, staff, and dedicated members of the Jr. Civitan and Jr. Beta clubs, members of the community are encouraged to round up and donate as many of the needed items as possible over the next few days.

Toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, diapers, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, and tooth brushes are the current items of focus.

Donations can be taken to Mrs. Pemberton’s room at CMS or dropped off to Valerie Kemp Dreier, CPA at 106 Spring Street in Ashland City.

Once all items are collected, Dreier has arranged for their Texas delivery over the upcoming holiday weekend.

Any donations received after September 1 will be mailed to Texas.

“We felt compelled to help those in Texas in some way,” says Dreier. “In the days and weeks following Middle Tennessee’s 2010 flood, people from across the country came to Cheatham County to lend a hand in the recovery effort. This is just our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who helped us recover.”
